T. Newton 20-Bore Boxlock Ejector | Neutral Cast | 7/8oz Nitro Proof | Crisp Mechanics

A well cared for English sub-gauge boxlock by Thomas Newton of Manchester, a firm that operated from 1860 until the outbreak of the Second World War. Newton was known for retailing both second hand guns and Birmingham built actions finished in-house.

This example is chambered in 20 bore, with 27" barrels carrying a 7/8oz Nitro proof. Wall thickness is excellent, with both bores measuring over .030". The bores are mirror-bright, ringing with a clear and sustained tone. The stock has neutral cast, making it suitable for both right- and left-handed shooters.

Though the length of pull is a bit short in its current configuration, the stock could easily accept a new pad and spacer for added length, or remain as-is for a younger shooter or a woman—a perfect candidate for a field companion or meaningful gift.

Mechanically, the action is particularly crisp: ejectors are in time, and the gun opens and closes with the firm, bank-vault feel expected of better British guns. A well-maintained sub-gauge from a small provincial maker, offering strong value and classic English charm in the increasingly sought-after 20 bore chambering.
